Jesse Alan Humphrey is a musician who represents a classic culmination of precision, feel and heart. In an age where drummers are increasingly replaced by computers, Jesse’s ability to lock in a groove and make it feel human is a breath of fresh air. On national stages from Summerfest in Milwaukee to the Chapel in San Francisco, in the orchestra pit off broadway, doing sessions for major label acts, national TV appearances, or playing soul music at the local haunts in his native city of Boston when he’s off the road, Humphrey brings authenticity to the music he plays.

Born November 10, 1987, Jesse’s first drum set at age 5, was a vintage blue sparkle Ludwig purchased for him by his parents. “I remember doing five rolls in my living room for hours and knowing this was gonna be a life long love affair.” A 2011 graduate of Berklee College of Music, Jesse received the prestigious “Colin D Hawes Award” for excellence in music. Studying under Tony “Thunder” Smith (Lou Reed) and Terry Lynn Carrington (Herbie Hancock), Humphrey cites Steve Jordan and Steve Gadd among his biggest influences. It has been following in the footsteps of Levon Helm and Don Henley though that Jesse has found a home in the rock and Americana communities, where he is now known as a drummer who can sing (with a capital S). From his post-college days as lead singer and drummer for Love in Stockholmto recent international tours with Stephen Kellogg, Dan Mills and Eric Hutchinson, Jesse finds himself doing double duty. “Singing really forces you to play for the song. You hear more. Listen more.”

Fans may affectionately know Jesse Alan Humphrey as “JHumps” or “Chardonnay” through his playful social media presence, following along with his hashtag #ontourwithJHumps. Make no mistake about it though, he’s a serious worker. Having carved out time for multiple studio sessions in 2015-2016, amidst a schedule that has had him on the road for more than 125 days of the year, there’s nothing that he’d rather be doing. “I’ve wanted to do this since I was 8 years old. Play great music with great people. Whatever it takes to make that happen…I’m in.”
